As we continue to look through our series called Tracing the Thread I encourage you to read Genesis 12:2-3 and Galatians 3:28-29. See if you can find the tie between these two passages. The purpose of this series is to take a New Testament passage and see how it calls back to the Old Testament.

Our first passage is in the book of Genesis. In this passage God is calling Abram who we know as Abraham to leave his homeland. Here God tells Abram to leave his land and go to the land I will show you. Imagine building a life, family, friend group, and then being told you need to get up and leave it all. Keep in mind God never told him where he was going, just to go until he was told to stop. That had to be hard to do, but Abram goes.

Here's the cool part: this land the Abram eventually settles in will one way become the Promise Land the Israelites settle in after wandering in the wilderness. God's vision for this land that Abram just gets up and goes too is really awesome. God tells him that if he goes he will make a great nation out of Abram and he will bless him.

If you now fast forward to the passage in Galatians, we see that all who are in Christ Jesus are heirs according to the promise. What is this promise? This is the promise God gave Abram. He would make a great nation out of him. By doing what God had asked him to do, we are products of this promise. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus we become a part of the grander story of Abram. A promise that God gave to him so long ago, we are fulfilling the promise.

Now I ask you, if God made a promise to Abram and kept his promise, what would make you think he couldn't keep his promise to you? When you give your life to Jesus you are welcomed into the kingdom. That is exciting news, but what are you doing with this news? Are you telling others about the hope you have?
