Did you know that God DELIGHTS in you? Zepheniah 3:17 says, “The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you but will rejoice over you with singing.”

What does it mean to delight? Think about when someone you love walks into a room, and you just light up when you see them. You smile and are so excited. You have delight in them. That is how God’s feels about us! He loves us and takes delight in us, his children. How does that make you feel? Does that thought that God delights in you bring joy to your heart and a smile to your face?

As we recognize that our identity is in our Father, and he delights in us, how can we carry this over to our children? Do you delight in your children? Our sweet kiddos are looking to us for their identity. They are looking to us to see how WE feel about THEM. Do you show your children that you delight in them? What are some simple ways to do this?

  • Be present with your children, and I don’t mean just physically present. Take part in their conversation. Look them in the eye. Listen to what they are saying. Give attention to what is important to them.
  • Play with them, letting them lead out in what they want to do. You don’t have to do this all day…even 15 minutes will make their day!
  • Make sure you hug and kiss your child throughout the day!
  • Smile at them when you see them.
  • Encourage them in both their successes and failures
  • Have dinner with them as often as possible.

These seemingly little things will help your child know that you delight in them, firming up their identity and confidence.

I recently ran across a video that I had seen before but reminded me of the importance of dinner time with our children. The link to the video is below. Take a minute to watch it and see what really matters to our kiddos…then go spend some time with yours and delight in them as God delights in you.
