Breaker Rock Beach
In the Pacific Northwest, there are beautiful beaches surrounded by towering pine trees. Waves crash against the shore, orcas leap through the water and sea lions play among the rocks. Out in the ocean you may see a huge breaker rock rising majestically from the ocean as a symbol of strength, standing firm against the force of wind and waves. That breaker rock is our focus for VBS 2024!
The world around us is filled with wonderful, exciting things that are blessings from God! However, the tide of cultural influence often echoes Satan’s distorted truth found in Genesis, “Did God really say…?” The waves of change are small at first and wash over us effortlessly. They beckon us to jump in and swim before we can spot them for what they are – half-truths or outright lies that pull us under quickly. But unlike shifting sands of culture, God’s truth NEVER changes. It stands strong like that breaker rock – a beacon calling us to hold tight to it, so we aren’t tossed about by every new crashing wave.
We may not realize it, but our children are being pulled under by this tide of cultural influence. What to us seems so foreign, is to them perfectly “normal.” Change your gender? Sure! Why not? Single parent homes? All their friends have them. Sex outside of marriage? Everyone does it. Satan has made all these things simply a normal part of their everyday lives. But God’s word is the one thing that they can turn to for the truth!
This summer, at Breaker Rock Beach, kids will learn to recognize the difference between what the world says is true and what God says is true. They’ll encounter everyday sayings that sound right, but dangerously miss the truth found in God’s Word. Each day kids will be challenged to know that God’s truth never changes – even when it’s radically different from what people might say. They’ll discover that God does not want them to be conformed to this age, but to be transformed by the renewing of their minds so that they can discern what is the good, pleasing and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2). God’s Truth Never Changes!
